DAVID KRAMER
May 11 — June 4, 2005
Opening reception: Thursday, May 12th, at 6:00pm
Artist in attendance.
David Kramer, recognized for his tongue-in-cheek cynicism of modern American society, presents a new body of work in his first Vancouver exhibition. Skilled in multiple media, including sculpture, installation and video work, and armed with an impressive exhibition history to match, Kramer presents new paintings and drawings representative of his unique style.
David Kramer, with a wry, sardonic sense of humour, pokes fun at himself, the commercial values of modern society, and challenges the notion that ‘more is better’. Often using discarded materials from marketable society, including fabric, garbage, text and typeface, Kramer’s drawings of “the good-life” are paired with shallow, empty phrases of hope and prosperity. These phrases, like a cheap pick-up line, leave the viewer questioning what will still be around at the end of it all.
David Kramer lives and works in his native New York City. He obtained his MFA in Sculpture from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY and has exhibited extensively in the US, Europe and Canada.
