| The Monte Clark Gallery is please to announce a solo exhibition by Vancouver/Berlin artist, Stephen Waddell.
STEPHEN WADDELL
13 February - 09 March, 2002
Opening reception: February 13th. 6 - 8 PM
Artist in attendance
Stephen Waddell's New Pictures consists of large-scale colour photographs and oil paintings that examine small, discrete moments within a larger context of mass, anonymous forms of urban experiences. While operating along a spectrum of "eventlessness", the images remain charged with subtle, enigmatic gestures that may recall the lure of Manet. Shot directly from 35mm and vastly enlarged, the photographs softly align themselves with the formal properties of painting. Waddell's own paintings are often sourced from his photographs and serve to further refine the act of looking and depicting.
Stephen Waddell was born in Vancouver in 1968 and studied at the University of British Columbia. Waddell lives and works in Berlin and Vancouver. In October 2001 a solo exhibition of Waddell's work was shown at Galerie Tanit in Munich. A solo exhibition is scheduled for 2002 at the Triennale Museum, Milan.
