MONTE CLARK GALLERY is pleased to announce PUSSYFOOTIN' a solo exhibition by Vancouver artist Steven Shearer October 4, 2001.
PUSSYFOOTIN' is comprised of new works in a variety of media including paintings, captured digital images and poster works. Among other works on display are Shearer's recent Metal Archive #2 and Kaleidoscope each drawing a massive assemblage of visual images into a singular composite picture or mosaic. Shearer has archived over seven thousand digital images from the internet - including many from eBay, the online trading website. As over 450,000 new items are posted daily on eBay by the general public, an endless, shifting archive of amateur photographic documentation is created. The accumulation is glacial in both its massive volume and constantly moving form. The artist's interest lies in the quasi-anthropological account of Rock music paraphernalia and the subculture that is afforded by these ephemeral homemade images. The aesthetic of the pictures, with their unintentional colour shifts, glares, and out of focus compositions, invites an inevitable connoisseurship from the viewer and is as important to the artist as his subject matter.
Also on display is an assemblage of framed Xeroxes, photographs, drawings, paintings, silkscreen prints, clippings, posters, faxes, contact prints, test strips and computer printouts from the artist's archive illustrating his ongoing engagement with the outskirts of popular culture.
Please include this information in any capacity possible; contact Monte Clark Gallery if you have any questions or are in need of further material.
