The Monte Clark Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Vancouver-based photographer Karin Bubas.
Ivy House
March 11 - 25 April, 2004
Opening reception: Thursday, March11, 6 - 8 pm
Artist in attendance
A new body of work, Ivy House from 2003 will be presented, in which a London house is shown being dismantled, with possessions boxed, bagged and catalogued. Bubas has immersed herself in this unfamiliar environment, generating a further development of the melancholy stillness of the 'moment after', a notable characteristic of her work wherein past and present are linked, without interference, to the artist's eye.
In the front gallery, the earlier series Exterior Studies at Night explores such ideas as surveillance, desire, and community from the perspective of the outsider, a stance held by the photographer through the very nature of her work. In this regard the series may be read as a personal investigation into the greater meaning of Bubas's artistic practice.
