The Monte Clark Gallery Toronto is pleased to announce an exhibition of British artist Anna Hunt and Vancouver photographer Karin Bubas.
ANNA HUNT + KARIN BUBAS
2 March - 31 March, 2002
Anna Hunt's series, "A Place for Us" paired with Karin Bubas' suite of photographs, "Florence and George" suggest that in our accelerated culture, we long for an environment to call our own. Although these intimate works are void of people, human existence is inferred by both the artist and the viewer. Bubas is interested in overlooked spaces (private and public). With the Florence and George suite, Bubas photographically documents her grandparent's home. Her pictures are anthropological in that their close attention to detail allows the viewer a glimpse in to the private world of Florence and George. The home is presented as a museum of the quotidian. The depicted objects are imbued with the presence of the inhabitants. Anna Hunt is interested in space as well, but on a collective level. Her association with modernist, mid-century architectural icons questions how people interact with such aesthetic structures. Hunt's images, intricately embroidered with thread in vivid colour or stunning black and white transform these architectural forms into small delicate and precious objects.

Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 11 to 7pm; Sunday, 12 to 5pm.
